What this office can and cannot do

Honorary consuls hold limited consular authority and are not staffed like a career mission. Many are not German citizens.

The Federal Foreign Office does not say whether this office can take passport applications. That is not the same as saying it cannot: call and ask before assuming you have to travel to New York.

Visas and German ID cards are outside every honorary consul's powers, here and everywhere else in the country.
