Honorary Consul of Germany in Oklahoma City

German consulate in Oklahoma City
An honorary consul is not a consulate general. None of them issue visas, and only some can take a passport application. Fees are paid in cash in US dollars, and applying through one adds 105.00 € to the passport fee.

This is the German honorary consulate for Oklahoma, based in Oklahoma City and answering to Houston.

What this office can and cannot do

This is an honorary office. It exists to save people a long journey, and its powers are narrower than a consulate general's.

This office cannot take passport applications. The Federal Foreign Office states it plainly, so a new German passport means going to Houston.

Visas and German ID cards are outside every honorary consul's powers, here and everywhere else in the country.

If a matter is beyond what this office can do, it will point you to the career mission rather than leave you guessing.

How far your consulate general is

The consulate general in Houston is 448 miles from here, roughly 7 h 58 min of driving without traffic. That is a long day out and back, so it is worth confirming by email what can be settled locally first.

What you can settle without travelling

Before you plan the trip, check whether your matter needs the office at all.

  • Track a passport that is already in progress: it is printed in Berlin and the six to eight weeks are set there, not at the counter that took your application
  • Order copies of German civil records for a citizenship file: those come from German municipalities by post, and they are the slowest part of any descent case
  • Order a German birth, marriage or death certificate: the registry office of the German town where it happened issues it, and most of them take an online or postal request

This is an independent directory of German consular offices in the United States. It is not operated by the Federal Foreign Office or by any German mission. Fees, opening hours and requirements change: always confirm them with the office before you travel.
